My name is Sam, owner and designer of Casale Crafts. I am beyond excited to be sharing another pattern with you today! This design is very near and dear to me as it is one of the only designs that I have actually finished for a while now. Although creativity is an incredible gift, there are times where it seems to escape you and I can confidently say that those times are the worst when you are a maker. I have been going through one of these creative droughts for much longer than I care for. However, when I found out that I had the honor of contributing to the THN Life again, I came up with a design and executed it in record time, which if i'm honest, it felt like I would never do again. With that being said, this dress is the shining light of a design that broke through my lack of inspiration haze and I will always be incredibly thankful for it.
Speaking of things that come and go, my fashion style will forever be changing like the wind. It just so happens that around the time I was coming up with this design I was diving down a rabbit hole of Disney Fashion Bloggers that love vintage style and bold patterns, which very heavily influenced this design. I knew I wanted to do something simple, but still stylish and bold and thus The Triple Threat Dress was born! When the team gave me my assignment they asked that I try to create a design that would be great for a night out for New Years Eve, however, it just so happens that the red and white design that I ended up creating seemed to work for Christmas, New Years, and Valentines day, HENCE the name The Triple Threat Dress. You can tackle 3 holidays in 1 dress!

Measurements:
Here are the size measurements of the dress once it is finished. If the pattern is followed exactly, these will be the measurements of the dress that you end up with; with the exception of the Bust Measurement. When you are working up the section for the bust section, the actual measurement will be a few inches less than the "final measurement", but it will comfortably stretch to that final measurement so that the top is a little tighter at the chest (aka you can lean forward without giving people a show). If you do not fit these exact measurements just follow the gauge to adjust the size to your liking.

Even if garments and sizing clothing scares you (trust me, it still scares me) this dress is not as intimidating as it may look! It is comprised of 3 different rectangular sections: a skirt section, a waistband section, and a bust section, all of which will be sewn together to create the dress! There is a little bit of math to be done, but I have simple formulas that you can follow that will (hopefully) make everything super easy to follow.
The pattern will have separate instructions for each size as the striped pattern will be worked slightly differently at the beginning and end for both the Skirt and Bust sections.
We will begin by working on the Skirt Section of the Dress which will be the largest section for the design.
Skirt Portion
Foundation
The foundation chain for the skirt is going to be how long the skirt is from your waist, so you can alter this to your liking and it will not affect any other part of the pattern; however, if you decide to alter your skirt length, make sure you chain a multiple of 2. The chain amounts listed below and intended to increase the length of the dress by 1" for each size up.

Waistband Section
This section is very straight forward as it is just a band of SC stitches the length of your Waist Measurement
Foundation:
For the foundation of the waistband you are going to Chain 7 and then follow the table below for how many rows of SC you need to work to achieve the corresponding waist measurement. Just remember to Chain 1 and turn at the end of each row until you reach the desired length.
Once you have finished your Waistband, the last main section you need to finish is the Bust Section.
Bust Section
Now this section is pretty much just a repeat of Skirt Section, but you are just making a smaller version, but you are following the same pattern as you were before. Similarly the bust section will have separated instructions for each size as the striped pattern will be worked slightly differently at the beginning and end.

Sewing The Sections Together
Now you have completed all three parts! The next thing we are going to do is sew all of the sections together. This is the part that is going to involve a little more thought because there is technically math involved haha, it is already done for you though!
So depending on the size you're making, you'll have different numbers of stitches that you'll need to blend together. Whichever stitch count (refer to the size chart) is larger will need to have 2 stitches share the same stitch on the section with the smaller count. You will need to do this as many times as the amount of extra stitches you have. Be sure to note how many leftover stitches you should have and be sure to leave that many.
For example, if you're making a size M your Bust stitch count (96) is 5 more stitches than your Waist stitch count (91), so you'll need to double up 5 stitches from your bust into the waist. This will work out to doubling up about once within every 19 stitches. So for the 18th and 19th stitch on the bust side, both will go into the 18th stitch on the waist side. You'll do the same thing again on stitch 37 and 38, 56 and 57, 75 and 76, and 94 and 95 with 1 stitch leftover.
Now to attach the Waist section to the Hip Section it will be a similar process. For a size XL your Hip stitch count (134) is 19 more than your Waist stitch count (119), so you'll need to double up 19 times. This works out to doubling up about once within every 7 stitches. In this example you would double the 6th and 7th stitches from the Hip section into the 6th stitch on the Waist section. You'll do this again on the 13th and 14th, 20th and 21st, 27th and 28th, 34th and 35th, and so on until you make it all the way through to 132 and 133 where you will have 1 stitch leftover again.
Note: From size L up the different stitches actually make it so the Waist stitch count is higher than the Bust, so you'll need to sew two stitches from the Waist into the Bust rather than the opposite.
This method will distribute the doubled stitches as evenly as possible so that your dress will look as uniform as possible!

Here is what it will look like when you have sewn all three sections together. There are only a couple steps lefts! The first step is to work SC stitches evenly around the borders of the dress, make sure they are the same amount of stitches on each side because you will be sewing together the sides to close the dress up. So once you finish the SC border, fold the dress as pictured below and sew the back closed! Now all there is left to do is the straps!
Adding The Straps
Since everyone is a different size, the straps will need to be placed on an individual level for comfort and efficiency (straps constantly slipping off is the worst feeling is it not? haha). For this I suggest slipping into the dress and putting stitch markers on the front of the dress on the spots where you think the straps would feel the most comfortable on you. Try to make them as even as possible.
After you have done this, take the dress off and find the point on each side where the dress creased (this would be about where the middle of your armpit would be) count the amount of stitches from this point to where you placed your stitch marker. Again do this for both sides, the amount may not be exactly the same for each stitch marker since you originally placed them by eye, but they should be close. Move the stitch markers so that they are the same amount of stitches away from the "armpit point" on each side.
Now count that same amount of stitches in the opposite direction (toward the back of the dress) on both sides, and place stitch markers there, this will make it so that your straps will be straight. The straps should be 5 stitches wide, so let the stitch marker indicate where your 3rd stitch should be.
Working on the front of the dress, starting 2 stitches to the right of the stitch marker, work 5 SC across. Chain 1 and turn. Continue working up the strap until it reaches the desired length. Personally I found the easiest way to decide how long the strap should be, was to measure the size of a strap on other dresses I own (it doesn't have to be crochet) but keep in mind that the crochet will stretch, so I recommend making the straps a little shorter than whatever measurement you get from the other dress.
Once you have reached the desired strap length, sew it onto the the back of the dress where you have the stitch marker located. Just like when you start working the strap, you will begin sewing it on 2 stitches to the right of the stitch marker, and then sew it across 5 stitches and tie off.
Repeat all of these steps for the other strap as well, and once you've completed these last few steps you will have successfully completed your Triple Threat Dress!
