Hello makers! I am Erin from ekayg designs. I love coming up with unique and creative toys for little ones, and finding different ways to make an otherwise common toy. This lovey pattern began as just that; a simple one-skein lovey, for someone to whip up as a quick baby gift. However, I quickly discovered that the natural holes of the blanket were perfect, for puppet arms! It is a toy that will grow with your baby! From the tiny fingers that grasp on to new and different textures, to the toddler hands that love to explore, this is a toy that can provide both comfort and creativity, and be loved for years to come.

Notes
This pattern is worked from the head down through the blanket in one piece, with the arms, ears, and snout sewn on separately. The head is worked up in sc, in continuous rnds, with no joining. The blanket portion is worked up in dc, with joining. Chs do not count as sts. Gauge is provided for both sections, and is only important if you wish to keep this to a one-skein project. It is designed to be both a lovey and a puppet for little ones to play and snuggle with! There is no stuffing, so they are easily washed.
Gauge
Gauge for head: 7 sts and 7 rnds = 2 inches
Gauge for blanket: 6 sts and 4 rnds = 2 inches

Ears, Make 2
Ch 6
Work rnd around the ch.
Rnd 1: sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, 5 dc in last ch, turn to work on the other side of the ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next ch and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Snout
Begin with magic ring. Work in continuous rnds with no joining.
Rnd 1: 8 sc in magic ring; 8 sts
Rnd 2: inc in each st around; 16 sts
Rnd 3: loosely sl st in each st around; 16 sts
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Using black yarn, sew the nostrils on, centered between the rnds, as pictured. Knot off behind the snout.
Sew the snout onto the face, sewing through the top of rnd 2, and leaving rnd 3 (the sl sts) untouched. Make sure the snout is centered above one of the ch 3 spaces, above a corner of the blanket. Weave in ends.
Eyes in black
The eyes are placed at about rnd 6 of the head, above the snout, with approximately 3 sts between them. They cover about 3 sts. Wrapping the yarn around itself is a great way to keep it in place. Please see watch below how to create the eyes!
