It is another week sharing, THN Dream Team member Brianna Iaropoli's, favorite stitches! So far, Brianna has shared 3 of her favorite stitches - The Modified Shell Stitch, the Tulip Stitch, and the Diamond Stitch. This week she is sharing how to crochet the Cable Stitch!

Stitch Descriptions and Abbreviations

Chain Stitch - ch – yarn over, pull yarn through stitch on hook.

Single Crochet – sc – Insert hook into stitch or space, yarn over, pull up a loop, (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.

Foundation Single Crochet – Fsc – Chain 2, insert hook into 2nd chain from hook, yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through both loops, (1 foundation single crochet with chain at the bottom) *Insert hook to the bottom of the stitch you just made, it will look like the top or “V” of a stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through all loops* repeat for desired amount of stitches.

Double Crochet – dc – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through remaining loops.

Front Post Double Crochet – FPdc – Yarn over, insert hook from front to back around the HDC of the previous row, not in the “V”, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through remaining loops.

*   Designates a repeat.

12 sts x 6.5 rows is 4”x4” in dc

Swatch – Cable is worked in multiples of 12 and this pattern separates each set by 2 sts.

Cable Stitch

Row 1

Fsc 30 sts.

Row 2

Ch 1, turn, sc across.

Row 3

Ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sts, [skip next 2-sc, FPdc in next 2-sc. Working behind both FPdc sts you just created, FPdc in the first skipped sc and FPdc next skipped sc, *skip next 2-sc, FPdc in next 2sc.  Working in front of both FPdc sts you just created, FPdc in the first skipped sc and FPdc in the next skipped sc.] Repeat from * over next 4 sc sts, sc in next 2 sts. Repeat from [to], sc in last 2 sts.

Row 4

Ch 1, turn, sc across.

Row 5

Ch 1, turn, sc in first 2 sts, *FPdc in first 2-FPdc sts, skip next 2-FPdc, FPdc in next 2-FPdc.

Working in front of both FPdc sts you just created, FPdc in first skipped FPdc and FPdc in next skipped FPdc, skip next 2-FPdc, FPdc in next 2-FPdc. Working behind both FPdc sts you just created, FPdc in the first skipped FPdc and FPdc in the next skipped FPdc, FPdc in last 2-FPdc, sc in next 2 sts. Repeat from * and sc in last 2 sts.

Row 6

Ch 1, turn, sc across.

Row 7

Ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sts, [skip next 2-FPdc, FPdc in next 2 -FPdc. Working behind both FPdc sts you just created, FPdc in first skipped FPdc and FPdc in next skipped FPdc.

*Skip next 2-FPdc sts, FPdc in next 2-FPdc sts. Working in front of both FPdc sts you just created, FPdc in first skipped FPdc and FPdc in next skipped FPdc.] Repeat from * over next 4 FPdc, sc in next 2 sts. Repeat from [to], sc in last 2 sts.

Rows 8 – and on
